Top Ten most important revelation

  • It’s Free but A LOT OF WORK.

“The cost of entry for a social media marketing effort is very low. In fact, it’s free. Today, virtually anyone can participate in the social web, even if in only a passive capacity. By this, I mean that anyone can watch an online video or read a blog post with comments attached to them. These days, social media is so ubiquitous on the web, it’s pretty hard to find people who don’t consume it in one fashion or another.” Creating a multimedia platform is very hard and very time-consuming. It took a long time to get the blog just the way I want.

  • Brand Future

The Brand perspective is key. “I think the real answer to that is that there are so many companies doing great things, it’s impossible to pick just one. And as I said earlier, I’m just excited that companies across so many industries have embraced social media. Many organizations, if not most, understand at this point the opportunity SM gives them to connect with consumers in new ways and to share their messages with the world.” Keeping everything on brand was hard. Using many different platforms I had to keep in mind that everything should flow together.

  • Breathe and think before you post.

Don’t spam your followers with the same message repeatedly. “Even if you’re sending out the tweet multiple times, it will take a while to saturate your community. The trick is to let them know why they’re special instead of why you think your message is special.” Using so many different platforms I get worried I was repeating myself too much. I tried to keep everything flowing like a river.

  • #Hashtags

Hashtags are strong to use because words have so many different meanings that I wanted to make sure I was reaching the right group. “Seek out individuals who care about what you care about. One of the easiest ways to build community on twitter is to engage in a dialogue with individuals who share the same interests as you. You can use  hashtags to search for different conversation topics.”

  • Location, Location, Location. More like Design, Design, Design.

Design is everything. Social media campaigns need to be eye catching and cohesive. Having a small team or a single individual work on the campaign so makes sense. Having too many cooks in the kitchen can backfire. Other different platforms the brand needs to be easily spotted. I went with a pink as a background color in my platforms.

  • Be on Goal.

A goal is important if there’s no clear goal, the customer won’t understand you are trying to promote. “Success in a social media-marketing campaign all boils down to the business objectives. As I’ve said, the key to a social media strategy is to identify specific business goals. You can then map the success of a social media-marketing campaign to whether this goal was reached.” I made a road map to make sure all my platforms were coherent and went well together without being exactly the same.

  • Know who you’re working with.

Knowing who to partner with is key to reach your goal. “Clients need to know how to buy. And as horrible as the word “buy” might sound-you hear “partner” and collaborate” a lot more these days at the end of the day, that is what you are doing as a client: paying for a service.
So we as clients need to figure out how to buy: how to identify and evaluate agencies for what their strengths are and what their weaknesses are.” I used models I know that I would be able to work well with, so no one’s time would be wasted.

  • Fix Yourself.

Mistakes happen and everything lives forever on the internet. “That is the beautiful thing: Once it’s out there, you can’t take it back. And rather than just erase it and pretend it never happened, you get to apologize and correct any misinformation you put out there.” I made many mistakes while working on this but I was able to fix it and regroup.

  • Life is always changing.

The internet is always changing. “The internet-is it me, or does that term already feel dated?-is changing so rapidly, and those changes are so transformational, that there really is no way to wrap our heads around what it’s going to look like down the road.” Websites are always updating. Facebook just did an update this week. I had to make sure that my context looked good with each update.

  • Create a Plan

Set Goals. Plan for the goal. Update the goal repeatedly. The Future is already here. I would finish one goal and would panic because I didn’t have the next goal in the works already. I set a wider goal that had mini goals in it. The plan is always changing to meet new goals. It is all a big circle that is neverending.
